Some old shots from China I: Shanghai

I spent the summer of 2008 working and studying in China (primarily Shanghai and Hong Kong). I didn’t have a dSLR camera at the time, and my primary purpose in taking pehotos was to simply document my travels rather than to produce anything truly artistic, but some shots turned out OK.

Here is a sampling of photos taken in Shanghai.

While Shanghai is one of China’s most modern and impressive cities, beautiful new structures often exist side-by-side with old, decaying neighborhoods. I tried to capture this contrast in the following pictures. I have faded the color in each photo.

While in Shanghai, I really enjoyed spending time in ordinary Shanghai neighborhoods, away from the glitziness of Nanjing Road, the Bund, and other well-known districts.

And now for some shots that are more colorful (literally and figuratively).
