Pismo Pelicans

I spent a week with my family at Pismo Beach last summer. Came across hundreds of pelicans, which were congregating on a series of rocks protruding from the ocean.

DSC_0552  More bird islands.

DSC_0543Close-up of some pelicans. Shot with my lovely 55-200 mm VR lens.

DSC_0558 Caught this guy just as he was landing.

DSC_0528I really got lucky with this shot. This bird kind of came out of nowhere, and I was fortunate enough to get a few shots of him while he was still relatively close.

DSC_0574 Came across this seagull mother with its baby while watching the pelicans.

  1. That shot of the pelican landing is amazing. How did you do that?

  2. We were standing on a cliff overlooking this big rock, on which the pelicans were hanging out. The rock was pretty tall, about equal in height with our cliff. I was using a zoom lens, so I could get pretty close shots of the birds.
